H.D. GRUENE MERCANTILE STORE SET TO OPEN IN FEBRUARY

A new chapter for one of Gruene’s historic buildings

A new retail destination is coming to the heart of Gruene this winter. The H.D. Gruene Mercantile Store is officially set to open on February 18 inside the historic H.D. Gruene Mercantile building at 1607 Hunter Road, a structure listed on the Texas Historic Commission’s register of historic buildings since 1987.

The new store will offer a curated mix of gifts, apparel, accessories, and home goods, with a strong focus on Texas-based brands and makers. By blending modern retail with historic character, the space aims to feel both fresh and rooted in Gruene’s past, giving locals and visitors another reason to slow down and explore the district.

Practical skills, confidence, and community — no experience required

Women ages 12 and up are invited to attend a free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Saturday, January 10, from 9–11 a.m. at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu New Braunfels. Designed by women, for women, the seminar focuses on realistic, leverage-based techniques that work regardless of size, strength, or athletic ability.

Participants will learn how to recognize common predator strategies, practice six essential self-defense techniques, and explore safety tools aimed at reducing risk in real-life situations. The program emphasizes confidence, awareness, and smart decision-making — not just physical defense — all within a supportive, beginner-friendly environment.
