Celebrate the life, stories, and traditions of the man known as the unofficial “Mayor” of Gruene.
Few people have left a mark on Gruene quite like Frank Schlather. For decades, his larger-than-life personality, love of dancing, and familiar presence at Gruene Hall made him a beloved fixture of the community. This afternoon, locals and visitors alike will have the chance to honor his memory during the annual Frank Schlather Day celebration.
Held at the iconic Gruene Hall, the event celebrates the legacy of a man whose warmth and enthusiasm helped shape the spirit of one of Texas’ most treasured destinations. From 12 to 2 pm today, you can enjoy 50-cent domestic beers during “Frank’s Tranquilizer Hour,” a tradition that pays tribute to Frank while bringing the community together for an afternoon of memories and camaraderie.
Whether you knew Frank personally or have simply heard the stories, the celebration offers a chance to experience a piece of New Braunfels history and honor a local icon whose legacy continues to live on.

Gather your team, grab a drink, and compete for prizes every Tuesday evening.
